Leather is a crafting resource used for harnesses and saddles. Without it, you cannot ride mountable Pals or use some of their special combat skills. Early on, it feels scarce. It only drops from specific Pals, and those Pals must be killed or captured with a Pal Sphere. I learned quickly that every Foxsparks is a potential saddle component.

Which Pals Drop Leather?

The most common Leather droppers are Foxsparks, Vixys, and Melpacas. I have farmed all three. Foxsparks are my favorite because they cluster near the volcanic region, just east of the Sealed Realm of the Swift fast travel point. A quick loop there with a decent weapon or capture team fills my inventory fast. Vixy is another early favorite, especially around starting areas. Melpaca is slower but reliable, and it also gives me a reason to explore grassy plains.

Other Pals that drop Leather include Fuack, Verdash, Nitewing, Chillet, Eikthyrdeer, Mammorest, Rushoar, Mossanda, Nox, Pyrin, Direhowl, Fuddler, Grizzbolt, Incineram, Galeclaw, Katress, Fenglope, Reindrix, Ribbuny, Rooby, Tombat, and Univolt. I keep this list in mind when I am exploring new biomes. If I see one of these Pals, I do not ignore it. I either capture it for my Paldeck or defeat it for the drop.

Should You Kill Or Capture?

I prefer capture. A captured Pal gives Leather and adds to my Paldeck, and sometimes it becomes a worker or breeding partner. If I am in a hurry, I kill. But Pal Spheres are cheap enough that capture usually wins. Why throw away a future team member for one quick drop? I ask myself that every time I see a Foxsparks. Capture also feels better in 2026, when breeding and base automation matter more than ever.

Can You Buy Leather?

Yes. Wandering Merchants sell Leather. The nearest one from the Plateau of Beginnings is at the Small Settlement fast travel point. I can buy Leather for 150 Gold. Is that a bargain? For someone who just needs one more saddle, absolutely. Gold is easy to earn through selling excess resources, and 150 Gold saves a long farming trip. I always keep a few thousand Gold on me for emergency Leather.

My Personal Leather Route

1. Unlock the Sealed Realm of the Swift fast travel point.

2. Travel east into the volcanic region with heat-resistant gear.

3. Bring a strong Pal, a good weapon, and plenty of Pal Spheres.

4. Capture or defeat every Foxsparks you see.

5. Loop through the area until your inventory is full.

6. If you are near the Small Settlement, buy extra Leather for 150 Gold each.

This route works because Foxsparks are common and respawn quickly. I also mix in Vixy and Melpaca when I am closer to the starting zones. The variety keeps the farm from feeling like a chore.

What Leather Unlocks

Even in 2026, after countless updates and new Pals, Leather remains a staple. The methods are the same: farm Foxsparks, Vixys, and Melpacas; check Wandering Merchants; capture when possible. I still remember my first saddle. It was for a Direhowl, and the Leather came from a mix of Vixy captures and one lucky merchant stop. That moment changed how I played. Suddenly, the map felt smaller. Suddenly, I could outrun threats and reach new zones. So if you are stuck, ask yourself: have I farmed enough Leather? Probably not.
